Welcome
Welcome to Poquoson High School! I am honored to continue to serve the amazing students, staff, and parents as the principal of Poquoson High. Working as one of the assistant principals over the past three years has shown me this is one of the best schools and communities in Virginia.
Our staff at PHS are dedicated, knowledgeable, and care deeply about the success and well-being of each student. The lessons taught within our classrooms go beyond content and focus on developing students to be college, career, and life ready. We use the Virginia Tiered Systems of Support (VTSS) to help guide student behaviors and to provide interventions when academic challenges arise. Our staff has worked hard to develop our new behavior matrix that we have launched this year. This matrix focuses on three positive behaviors and how students can exhibit these behaviors in and outside of our building. The three positive behaviors were selected intentionally to help continue our tradition of excellence at Poquoson High School. The three expectations are: Respect, Responsibility, and Acceptance.
Along with strong academics, we also focus on extracurricular activities. Our sports, clubs, band, chorus, and other organizations provide our students with opportunities to compete, socialize, and showcase their talents. Poquoson High was recently presented with the Wells Fargo Cup! The Wells Fargo Cup goes to the school in each group classification that has achieved the best overall record in VSHL state-level competition in 27 sports and 12 academic activities – the state champions’ state champion. This accomplishment is a true honor and shows the dedication and emphasis our staff, coaches, athletic/activities director and administration places on providing these extracurricular activities for our students at PHS.
All staff are committed to working with each student and partnering with their families to provide the support needed to help them succeed. Students, parents, and the community are welcome to express any concerns and arrange appointments if necessary to meet with administration or staff. We receive outstanding support from the community and many organizations within Poquoson. Please do not hesitate to contact us if needed.
Please view the below video for more information regarding student expectations using our new VTSS behavior matrix.
Respectfully,
